In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury. (Proverbs 14:23)

If you are a Baby Boomer you’ll likely remember the 1959 popularity of Mattel’s Chatty Cathy. She provided trivial chatter to inquisitive little girls. Multitudes clamored for the talking doll.

We are headed for trouble when we’re talking, texting or chatting incessantly. It seems we easily fall into the trap of talking way too much. The Proverbs wisdom writer did not waste words. We profit in honest labor; in contrast, we tend to suffer loss when we talk.

An idiom is applicable. He or she is all talk and no action.

Do you feel led to volunteer to work in a ministry or start one up? If the Holy Spirit places a burden for ministry upon you or me He will empower us for the labor. We can trust Him to equip and enable us for works of service.  Will we labor on diligently for the advancement of God’s kingdom?

And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. (Galatians 6:9)

Father, I confess that I often fail to follow the guidance and instruction of your Holy Spirit. Create in me a compassionate and teachable heart and spirit. I know that you equip those who are willing and able to serve. In Jesus name. Amen.
